Waterford City Library

Waterford City Library, also known as the Central Library, is a public library in Waterford, Ireland. It was the first to be built of Ireland's many Carnegie libraries. The philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who had previously opened libraries in Scotland and the USA, himself laid the foundation stone in 1903.[1] He went on to fund four more libraries in County Waterford.

Architecture

The classical-style building is listed.[2] It is constructed from Kilkenny limestone. It was renovated in 2004 for its centenary and was part of the Irish Architecture Foundation’s “Lives of Spaces” exhibition in 2008 at the Venice Biennale of Architecture.[3]
